Customer Reviews: might be good but not for me July 4, 2010 Proaction (Midwest) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I returned this computer before even a week passed because it disappointed in matching my monitor.
I previously have owned an HP netbook so I have experience with the concept.
Pros: This is a very attractive, light netbook, and I loved the chicklet keyboard. Why don't more manufacturers adopt this as a standard? I was looking forward to the 15 hour battery life but never got a chance to test it. The on board screen resolution was nice, although I am partial to the "non-glare" concept for a traveling computer.
Amazon Prime is great and worth the annual price if you are a regular, and the return went smoothly.
Cons: Windows 7 Starter might be okay if you've never had any other computer experience and wouldn't immediately miss many features and the adjustability of any other previous OS. It seems to me to be a trick invented by Microsoft to give you the illusion that you are buying a low-priced item because once you get it you are going to have to spend $60 to $150 more to get an OS you can really use!
But the deal-breaker on this netbook was immediately apparent when it could not reach the correct resolution for my 1600x1200 monitor (which is only a moderate size, not huge). Yes, it is possible that this is the fault of Win7 Starter, but I could find no supporting literature to answer my question and so I would have had to gamble to pay for the OS upgrade, which would not have been returnable! The whole point of a netbook for me is the benefit of light and small outside my house, but being able to utilize a decent monitor once I bring it back inside the house!
Another Con: The battery design is interesting and keeps the bottom off the table surface by protruding below the bottom surface if you want it to run cooler, I suppose. But when using it on your lap it is quite uncomfortable and was digging into my legs. I would have had to ADD some object with a flat surface to use it in that manner which would have meant one more thing I would have had to carry around with me. NO thanks.
